Amish fertility is declining slowly but remains exceptionally high: married women in Ohio's Geauga County settlement averaged 8.6 children in the 1924-33 birth cohort and an estimated 6.3 in the 1984-93 cohort, while national estimates put the Amish total fertility rate near 5.5-6.5 in the 2000s and 2010s, more than triple the current US average of about 1.6. A 2026 population-wide registry study (Anderson & Thiehoff) puts the 2002-11 TFR at 6.1, corroborating the national series.
