Dalmatia supplied 11 of the 19 Croatian-born players in the 2018 World Cup squad despite containing about one fifth of the country's population: 2.8 times its population share. Zagreb and the central counties, by contrast, were slightly under-represented relative to their population. Šime Vrsaljko, born in Rijeka in wartime exile, is counted with Dalmatia, his family's home region.
